Statement
“Streets” evolved slowly from a previous series. The first pieces with a design similar to the current state were developed in the beginning of 08’. There are many influences that define this imagery like the fragmented downloads of online video to the visual and musical sampling so prevalent in our media. Almost all of the content we are exposed to in print and screen is eventually finished by a program in layers. My childhood favorites from the Cubists to Mondrian also play an important role. In summary, my goal is to expand these influences into a contemporary process that allows for continuous change.
Tech. Specs.
The physical collage is based on a sheet of 140lb hot press watercolor paper laminated onto Dibond. All images are printed with an Epson R2880 using the archival UltraChrome K3 inks on a variety of fine art papers for different surfaces and textures. After dry mounting with a PH neutral roll laminate onto museum grade matt board, rag board, and plexi, the prints are cut and layered onto the base with archival glue.
The HD video is shot by combining sequential stills from a 35mm Nikon D300 on high speed motor drive. Groups of 5x7 jpegs are manipulated in Photoshop through batch processed actions then combined in Final Cut to create a moving image. Audio is then added in Logic.
Bio
Born 1/12/66 - Whitehall, PA USA. I received private classical instruction in drawing and painting from age 12-17 and then again from 22-24.
While working nights in various factories I slowly built up a corporate client base as a self taught freelance photographer during the day. Starting around 1990 it took seven years to become completely self employed. For the purposes of supplementing my income while continuing to work creatively, I began researching Chelsea, NYC, in 02 to create a process for fine arts application. After two years of development this second business started in February of 04.
